Certificate in Altered and Extreme States and Addictions

Objectives

  • Know and be able to address the role of trauma in extreme states

  • Understand and be able to apply a Process Work approach to addictions

Background  

This program is based on a Process Oriented approach and will stress being able to work with our own and with others altered and extreme states. Process Work is one of a few methods that make psychological interventions with the whole spectrum of altered and extreme states, to the mild trances we go into during the day to the profound extreme state of coma.  There will be 8 seminars offered in rotating fashion. People can join at any point in the training and complete all 8 seminars.

Previous accomplishments

The teachers in this program have worked extensively and taught extensively in this area of altered and extreme states and addictions.

Theory and Methods

The theory and methods come from Process Oriented Psychology and integrate many other approaches to working with altered and extreme states and addictions.

Format

The program will be based on live training as well as in-person training given in a few different locations. Some seminars will be offered at the Process Work Center Hawaii, some in Portland and other places in the world. Online participation or watching recordings will always be an option.

The seminars will be offered in rotation, and people can take them as they can to complete them. People can start at any one of the seminars and complete them all.

Systems 

As a Certificate Program student, you choose an adviser( from a list we will provide of diplomats). If you are already in a diploma program, you may already have an advisor and utilize that person. This course consists of the following:

 

  • The list of seminars to attend.

  • A plan for using 15 sessions, between personal growth and supervision, to sharpen your tools in these areas.

  • Identifying your own areas of personal work needed around this program

  • Developing, getting support, and presenting some kind of final project that demonstrates your learning and growing in this area. This can be a paper, a demonstration, developing a class to teach, an art project, etc. It is coordinated with your advisor.

Formalities

We need a written application that contains your interest, aims, and individual situation. Please write a summary of why this particular certificate is relevant to your personal and professional life goals. The trainers decide about participation individually. Upon completion of the training, participants have attended at least 15 hours of personal work/ supervision. They will receive a certificate that states their hours and areas of learning.

Fees

Application fee $75.  Registration Fee $250. Fees go towards paying the administrative costs of the program.  

Seminars 

  • Altered states, peak experiences—This seminar will include training how to identify and unfold altered states of consciousness. Special emphasis will be given to working with peak experiences.

  • Extreme states—general and specific interventions—This seminar will cover the basic interventions that work with all extreme states and then specific interventions that tend to work with specific extreme states.

  • City shadows and other worldwork concepts and interventions needing to work on extreme states.

  • 2nd Training interventions with extreme states—-This seminar will focus on utilizing 2nd training methods of working on extreme states, for example, doing X and U work, space-time dreaming, deep bodywork, and other methods to help the person in their extreme state.

  • Process Work with suicide and depression—This seminar will show how to work with 3 kinds of depression and how to assess accurately and process suicidality.

  • Process Work with addictions—This seminar will focus on a Process Work approach to dealing with substance and behavior addictions, including alcohol and drugs, food, gambling, and sex and pornography addictions.

  • Process Work with trauma experiences behind extreme states—This seminar will show how to get to the trauma that has triggered the extreme states and how to work through that trauma.

  • Process Work with spiritual emergences—This seminar will show specifically how to distinguish spiritual emergences from regular extreme states. We will then cover how to work with spiritual emergences.
